The Waves and The River: Two Haibun/
A downloadable haibun pair
The haibun (俳文) is a traditional Japanese literature form, and one of the predecessors of the haiku (俳句). The haibun is a combination of prose and poetry, traditionally a passage about a travel experience or scene from nature followed by a poem in haiku form. The Waves and The River is a set of two haibun about places in Massachusetts, one about a childhood experience in Cape Cod, and the other about the author's love of the Charles River. It was originally written in Japanese, and is presented beside Romanization of the text and an English translation.
